For city boosters, planners, and anyone drawn to a good cause: an annual student award fund has been established at UMBC to commemorate the life and achievements of Bernard L. Berkowitz. Bernie was a leader of Baltimore economic and community development affairs for three decades. Best remembered for his stint as President of the Baltimore Economic Development Corp (BEDCO) from 1980 to 1988, Bernie’s actions clearly led to increased economic opportunities for Baltimoreans. He believed in transcending divisions – bringing together people of different social and economic backgrounds. He is fondly remembered for striving to “do the right thing”, always with a sense of humor and kindness. Follow this link for more information and to give to this worthy cause.
